Wegmans on The Office!

May 15, 2008 – 10:34 pm

I was watching the season finale of The Office tonight and noticed some familiar lettering on a can of soda.  It was in fact a can of Wegmans brand soda.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Rochester, NY based grocery store chain, I’m sorry.  It’s a magical place — much more than a grocery store.  Besides having an incredible selection of fresh produce and organic stuff that I’ve never heard of, the stores will typically have restaurants inside!  It wasn’t uncommon to go eat at a Wegmans for lunch.

And before all the Google shenanigans, Wegmans was named the top company to work for in 2005.  Yup, a grocery store.

Some quick research revealed that it’s actually quite common to see Wegmans products featured in episodes of the Office.  I guess I just wasn’t paying attention before.  Apparently the Scranton Wegmans will occasionally supply the show with some free stuff.

Alas, there are no Wegmans on the west coast :(  But we do have Safeway here, which is a crap hole.

  3. it appears that you have made a pretty major mispelling — it’s “Wawa.” in fact, you only got the first letter right.

  4. hahaha, funny Beah. I’m looking forward to your post on Wawa. We didnt’ have those in New York.

Being a Pennsylvania native, surely you’re familiar with the sheer awesomeness of Wegmans. (sorry for calling your Shirley)

  5. Nelson – I’ve tried out a Lucky’s. Definitely a huge step up from Safeway. But it still doesn’t even come close to a Wegmans.

You should take a trip to Rochester or Syracuse to experience a Wegmans! And after that, you can…umm… probably come right back because there’s not much else to do.

  6. Apparently I’ve been missing out all my life by shopping at Safeway. I’d like to defend the Menlo Park Safeway as one of the nicer ones, probably because it’s trying really hard to be like Whole Foods. doh.

  7. Nice catch, Mike. Yet another thing California is missing out on. I think I miss home more every day.

Beah, Wawa and Wegmans are not in the same category. One is not better than the other. They are BOTH awesome.

Wawa is an awesome convenience store. It’s where you go when it’s 3 AM, and you want a meal, a snack, or maybe just some coffee NOW.

Wegmans is an awesome grocery store. It’s where you go when you are inspired by a cooking show and want to fill your kitchen with goodness too. And, if while shopping you decide you need to eat NOW, well, you can do that too.

Lucky is not Wegmans. Mike, we need to organize an East Coast trip to educate these people. Seriously. I’ll start a spreadsheet or something.
