English confuses me
June 15, 2008 – 9:54 pmI’ve made it through my whole life up to this point without realizing that the words “defence” and “defense” can be used interchangeably. The realization came when the Firefox spell checker informed me that my spelling of “defence” was incorrect. I was a little surprised. It sure looked fine to me.
Sure enough, a quick check in Wikipedia informed me that there are in fact two spellings. I guess it has something to do with American and British English spelling differences or something.
I’ve never been that good with the English language. I guess I still dont understand it.

I got tired of Firefox telling me my British spellings were wrong, so installed a British English Dictionary add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3366

Yeah, defence is the British spelling. So, as an American, you were wrong.

I just realized that you chose to use the correct spelling in your comment, which is what I presume this post is about. Good stuff.
