Manny being Manny in LA
Thursday, July 31st, 2008
It finally happened. Manny Ramirez was traded to the LA Dodgers today.
I can’t say that I’m surprised. He’s been asking (intermittently) for a trade for the past few years. I’m hesitant to say it, but deep down I think I’m glad to see him go. He was an offensive powerhouse in Boston, always entertaining to watch (for both good and and some not so good reasons), and probably one of my favorite players on the team.
But at the same time, he had become quite the distraction with his trade comments. And he obviously wasn’t happy. So it’s for the best. No hard feelings, Manny. It’s been fun. Best of luck in LA.
But traded for Jason Bay? He’s got decent numbers, but he’s no Manny Ramirez. At least we’ll get some defense in left field now. We’ll see how it goes. Boston has had some good luck in recent years with dealing aging players before the injuries kicked in (Pedro, Nomar, Damon). We’ve also had good luck with transforming good players into great players once they put on a Red Sox uniform (Ortiz, Lowell, Drew to some extent). So I’m going to trust Theo and the gang with this move. I hope it works out. We just need Jason Bay to grow out some dreds.
All good things must come to and end, but let’s just take a second to relive some the best/worst Manny Ramirez moments in Boston. There are some classics in there (even without the oopsie from earlier this month).
And lets part ways with Manny on a good note…like this one:

cya Manny.
Grizzly Adams did have a beard…
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008Perhaps I got a little carried away with the ruggedness of Colorado. Or perhaps I just simply forgot to shave for a week. But either way I have a poor excuse for a beard going, with no intention of stopping anytime soon.
*Creepy picture alert*
I’ll have a post on this year’s Colorado trip very soon. But to answer the obvious question, no I didn’t see the Wysz while I was there
Return to Colorado
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008I’m going to Colorado for 5 days to spend some quality time with the fam. My younger brother lives in Denver and the rest of my family lives on the east coast. But with me out here in California, why not meet up in the middle?
I went last year and had a really good time. I’m hoping to do a lot of new things as well as perhaps revisiting some fun places from last year as well.
I’m assuming my internet access will be limited, so this might mean the return of twittering. Vacations seem to be the only logical time to use twitter for me.
Big Changes
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008It’s been a pretty big month for me. In the rare case that there is someone out there that reads this blog that I don’t see almost every day, I thought I would recap what’s been going on.
-
From New House 6/2008 I moved from San Jose to Santa Clara. No longer am I living in a small two bedroom apartment in a mid 70′s architecture complex with crappy management. I now live in a spacious four bedroom modern house with a surprisingly accommodating landlord. Biggest plus: my drum set now lives in a garage instead of a living room. Woo. How about pictures from when I first moved in? How about a house warming party in the near future?
- I’m starting a new job on Monday. Same company. Different building. Different team. Different things to do. I’m pretty pumped. I’m hoping to be doing some fun stuff and meeting a lot of new people in the new role. Of course, I’ll be certain to stay in very close contact with everyone from my old team. Not only because they are my friends, but also because they are the only people linking to my website and giving me PageRank.
And in unrelated news…as I was just about to leave work yesterday evening, I get a phone call from an old high school friend from good ol’ Fulton, NY. He tells me that he just rode his motorcycle across the country as is currently just down the road from me. It was a pleasant surprise. Beers consumed that evening: New Belgium’s seasonal Skinny Dip and Lost Coast’s Downtown Brown.
