Lala.com + Last.fm scrobbling = pure bliss

February 11, 2009 – 9:38 pm

I’ve been using lala.com for a few weeks now. It’s a great service. It lets you sync your music library with their servers so you can play your music library from anywhere with an internet connection. No reason to bring my iPod to and from work anymore. But the one caveat I had with the service was that I couldn’t keep track of my music listening trends on Last.fm like I can with iTunes or my iPod.

Until now!

Lala.com is now beta testing scrobbling your listens onto your Last.fm account! All I had to do was click on the “Tell us” link on the top left of the site andĀ ask for the feature to be activated in my account. Within an hour, I got a reply and it was activated in my account. I’ve been scrobbling all day from lala.com. It works great so far!

Oh, and I got the tip from a lala.com reply to me on Twitter. They’ve since deleted the tweet, probably to keep the beta testing limited, or because they don’t want to be associated with me. Either way, it’s fine by me.

Update (7/12/09): It looks like the “Tell us” link no longer exists. Try asking in this form: http://www.lala.com/#contactsupport

Update (10/27/09): As Andrew pointed out in the comments below, the location to enable the feature has moved. “My Lala” > “Settings” > “Beta” link/tab at the top right.

  3. I emailed them and got a prompt response as well, telling me I was all set. What do I have to do to start scrobbling though? I’m playing stuff in Lala, but it’s not showing up in my Last.Fm profile.

Do I need to set something up in Lala or last.fm manually?

  4. @Rocky: I had trouble finding the settings as well. They sure don’t make it easy to find!

ACCOUNT link (on top right) > Beta New link (on far right) > Enter your Last.fm account info.

  6. I don’t know the story about the Tweet, but while the betafeedback email works, our systems are set up to better handle requests that come in via a form on the site. The “preferred” method to contact us about turning on Last.fm support is to go to your Account settings > Beta tab, just as Mike described. We keep it a little hidden on purpose.

Either way works, though. It’s been great to see the interest.

  7. Thanks for the tip. Now when I use Lala.com to stream my music library to my netbook, I can also scrobble to Last.fm. If Lala.com would also give us the ability to Love songs to Last.fm, it’d be perfect!

  8. Looks like it moved again. As of today: My Lala | Settings, then click the Beta link/tab at the top right.

  9. Thanks! Thought I was the only person on earth who wanted to be able to scrobble from Lala. So glad to run across this!

  10. My fellow Andrew’s directions to scrobble fom Lala still work in this happy new year of 2010.
    Thanks!

  11. definitely a cool feature, now if only they’d make it so you could import your lala history to last.fm…
